March 24, 2003 - 3rd Edition coming soon – summary of enhancements

Fedhealth is planning to release the 3rd Edition of "IT’S A DISASTER! …and what are YOU gonna do about it?" in the next few months. The following summarizes many additions and revisions (listed in order they’ll appear)…

--  Added in 2002 disaster statistics and put in some new Facts & Figures Section 1 contains all Family Emergency Plan and Disaster Supplies Kit information (including First Aid Kit tips) – flows easier now

--  Moved all disaster topics up to Section 2 – Many Mitigation Tips and a few federal programs listed first, then cover each specific type of disaster (still in alphabetical order).

--  Added Air Quality Mitigation tips (where to get more information on carbon monoxide, mold and radon) BEFORE tips for each type of disaster redone using 2-color bullets (no longer numbered) -same as DURING and AFTER tips now.

--  Added Household Chemical Emergency to HAZARDOUS MATERIALS

--  Expanded TERRORISM topic from 3 pages to 27 pages ... cover cyber attacks, 7 biological and 6 chemical agents (i.e. descriptions, how it spreads, signs & symptoms, and treatments on each agent), radiological threats or incidents (dirty bombs), tips on suspicious packages, plus what to do Before, During and After each type of incident. Information obtained primarily from Departments within CDC and Health Canada

--  Added more information about VOLCANIC ERUPTIONS Information obtained from USGS Volcano Hazards Program

--  Section 3 is now Basic First Aid (added several topics - West Nile, ear injuries, etc.)

--  Verified and updated both American and Canadian Red Cross Programs & Services

--  Verified and updated all U.S. State & Territory Emergency Management Offices (changed Dept names, addresses, ph#s, URLs)

--  Modified Office of Critical Infrastructure Protection and Emergency Preparedness (OCIPEP) data, added Regional offices, and verified and updated all Provincial & Territorial EMOs

--  Updated and expanded Appendix A - Department of Homeland Security & Citizen Corps

--  Added 2 more pages of "Resources" plus new organization names and URLs in the "Additional Resources & Web sites" (some flagged specifically for Schools & Kids)

--  Did miscellaneous cosmetic improvements to every page

Added 44 pages to the book – 3rd Edition will have 256 pages total – includes a dozen blank pages for Notes or for custom printing jobs.

We will be able to keep our pricing the same so it does NOT impact our school Fundraiser Program. Estimated availability is June 2003 - please check back for updates!
